<p>Engl. physical layer; layer 1 in the ISO layer model, contains specifications for connectors and interfaces. Contrary to popular belief, cabling is NOT defined in layer 1; cabling is not provided for in the ISO layer model. In order to nevertheless classify cabling in the model, it is assigned the fictitious "layer 0" ("cabling layer"). </p>

<p>Shielded data cable whose wire pairs are surrounded by their own foil shield. The abbreviation PiMF stands for "pairs in metal foil". </p>

<p>Power supply for end devices with SPE (Single Pair Ethernet) via single-pair data lines, standardized according to IEEE 802.3bu. In normal operation, end devices have up to 50 W available at a typical current of up to 1360 mA. </p>

<p>The EN 50173 distinguishes between three cabling areas:<br />Primary area: Area between the buildings<br />Secondary area: Area between the floors within a building<br />Tertiary area: Area within a floor between the distribution cabinet and junction box</p>

<p>In high-speed networks such as Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, data is transmitted simultaneously on all four wire pairs. Interference between the wire pairs must be added together in these network types, as in a four-pair cable, one wire pair is surrounded by three wire pairs whose signals can simultaneously interfere with the signal on the wire pair in question. PowerSum stands for the addition of interference power. With PowerSum ACR-F, the possible interference and interactions in the ACR-F value are examined for three neighboring, signal-carrying wire pairs. The old designation for PSACR-F is PSELFEXT. </p>
