<p>The data signal is attenuated on its way along the data line. The crosstalk at the far end of a line is therefore less than it would be if the signal arrived at the receiver at full strength. As the measuring device measures both the attenuation and the line length, it can include the signal attenuation caused by the line length in the FEXT measurement. FEXT stands for "far end crosstalk attenuation", the crosstalk attenuation at the far end of the line. The old designation for ACR-F is ELFEXT &#160; </p>

The ACR value reflects the quality of a cabling route better than crosstalk attenuation or attenuation alone, because the ratio of the two variables also records possible compensation, for example if very good crosstalk attenuation compensates for not so good plug attenuation or vice versa. </p>

<p>In crosstalk, the signal of a neighboring wire pair can be detected on a wire pair under consideration. The term originates from telephone technology, where crosstalk was characterized by the fact that you could hear other people's conversations quietly during a call. </p>
