Toni-Areal - the center for art and science
In the up-and-coming western part of Zurich, where milk used to be processed in a pot to make the famous yogurts, 5,000 young people are now studying art and science. A university campus for applied sciences was built in summer 2014 on a total of 120,000 square meters of usable space. The rest of the rental space consists mainly of apartments and commercial space. Drahtex supplied the communication cabling products (copper and fiber) as well as the racks for the data center and the floor racks for this project. The products that were installed were supplied exclusively by the parent company Telegärtner Karl Gärtner GmbH. Telegärtner is one of the few companies in Europe that develops and manufactures its own products.
With the Toni-Areal, the Zurich university campus has gained a new location that is larger than the main ETH building. The Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and two departments of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) will find their future here from summer 2014. In addition, 100 rental apartments have been built in the upper section. The basic infrastructure was left in place and built on site. The project posed a major challenge for the communications cabling. The schools had high expectations. Cinema halls, sound and television studios, various event and concert halls were built, which are highly technical and have state-of-the-art communication links. Enormous safety precautions (fire protection, etc.) had to be reconciled with the communications infrastructure.
Drahtex and its parent company, Telegärtner Karl Gärtner GmbH, found a good partner who was able to cover all the communications in this project. Drahtex customers also benefit from the 25-year system guarantee for the cabling components, which they receive exclusively from Drahtex.
