PH Zurich relies on blow-fiber technology in the new campus
The Zurich University of Teacher Education (PH Zurich) is the training and further education institution for teachers in the Canton of Zurich. Around 2,600 prospective teachers, 6,000 continuing education participants, around 500 lecturers, academic staff and assistants as well as 250 employees in administrative, technical and operational functions work at the PH Zurich. In summer 2012, the most attractive teacher training campus in Switzerland was opened right next to Zurich main station. PH Zurich relies on the blow-fiber technology from Drahtex for the campus cabling.
Building cabling systems are subject to major technological change and require careful and far-sighted planning. The demands on building cabling are constantly increasing. As information density increases, ever greater volumes of data need to be processed. New transmission protocols require larger bandwidths. If high bandwidths and long transmission lengths are required, fiber optic technology is superior to copper technology.
Why blow fiber technology?
The advantages of fiber optic technology are undisputed. There are no problems with cable lengths. Fiber optic cables are significantly thinner and lighter with comparable transmission capacity. The major advantages of blow-fiber technology lie in the optimum cost-benefit ratio. The installation can be adapted to current requirements at any time without major structural measures. It is no longer necessary to tear up fire barriers or dismantle ceilings. The additional insertion of optical fibers no longer requires any installation work. The installation of unused fiber reserves is no longer necessary. This results in massively lower installation costs when creating the basic infrastructure.
