<p>The data signal is attenuated as it travels along the data line. The crosstalk at the far end of a line is therefore lower than it would be if the signal arrived at the receiver at full strength. Since the measuring device measures both the attenuation and the line length, it can include the signal attenuation caused by the line length in the FEXT measurement. FEXT stands for "far end crosstalk attenuation," which is the crosstalk attenuation at the far end of the line. The old name for ACR-F is ELFEXT.&#160;&#160;</p>

The A variant was originally developed for the military, but is now also used for civilian applications. However, the color assignment<br />according to T568B is used much more frequently. EN 50173 does not specify a color assignment.</p> <p><img src="/default-wAssets/img/glossar/kupfertechnik/RJ12_2.jpg" alt="RJ45" /></p> <p><br />In practice, connection cables with RJ11 or RJ12 plugs (e.g. from telephones or fax machines) are often plugged into RJ45 sockets. The RJ45 socket has eight poles, the RJ11 or RJ12 plug has six poles, and it is therefore often the case that the outer edges of the RJ11 or RJ12 plug, which protrude over the lower contacts of the plug, damage the outer contacts of the RJ45 socket. RJ45 jacks from Telegärtner are therefore equipped with integrated overbend protection, which ensures that the RJ45 contacts are not damaged even if they are mismated with RJ11 or RJ12 plugs.<br /></p>

<p>Crosstalk occurs when the signal from a neighboring wire pair can be detected on a wire pair under consideration. The term originates from telephone technology, where crosstalk manifested itself in the form of being able to quietly listen in on other conversations during a call.&#160;</p>

<p>Abbreviation for "shielded twisted pair"; collective term for shielded cable with twisted wire pairs. In most cases, the wire pairs are individually shielded with a metallized foil, sometimes the cable only has a foil shield that encloses all four wire pairs; sometimes the common shield can also consist of a braid of thin copper wires. <p>English term "balanced"; cable whose two conductors have the same structure. The most common example is the cable with twisted parallel conductors (twisted pair). An example of an unbalanced cable is the coaxial cable, whose outer and inner conductors are constructed differently. To connect balanced and unbalanced lines with each other, a so-called balun (a portmanteau of the technical terms BALanced-UNbalanced) is used. </p>

<p>Telephone plug; TAE stands for "subscriber connection unit". The TAE plug has 6 poles, but usually only four poles are used. Coding lugs are attached along the length of the plug housing, which are located in the middle of the plug (TAE-N) or at the bottom edge (TAE-F) to prevent mismating. F-coded plugs are used for telephone sets, N-coded plugs for non-telephone sets, such as answering machines or fax machines. In multiple sockets, such as the TAE-NFN, the answering machine is typically plugged in on the left, the telephone in the middle and the fax machine on the right. F connections always have priority over N connections, which means that a telephone can still pick up a call even if the answering machine has already taken over the call. Telegärtner was significantly involved in the development of the TAE plug. </p>
